Privacy Policy

The short version
Sugarcane 8™ doesn't require an account, doesn't sell your data, and doesn't run ads. The camera and location are used only on your device to scan vehicles and find nearby yards. We don't know who you are.
Who we are
Sugarcane 8 ("we", "us", the "app") is a tool for salvage-yard pickers and parts resellers. You scan a vehicle's year/make/model sticker or VIN, and the app shows live eBay pricing, sold comps, local yard prices, and a profit calculator. This policy explains what data the app touches and why.
What we collect
Camera
When you scan a sticker or VIN, the camera reads the text on the label on your device to identify the vehicle. Photos and camera frames are processed live and are not stored, uploaded, or shared.
Location
If you grant location access, we use your approximate location only while the app is open to find the closest salvage yards (e.g. Pull-A-Part, U-Pull-&-Pay) and show local part prices. Your location is not saved to our servers or tied to your identity. You can deny or revoke this anytime in iOS Settings — the app still works, you just enter vehicles manually.
Accounts (optional)
You can scan, price parts, and use every calculator without signing in. Signing in exists only to back up your garage so it survives a new phone. If you choose to sign in with Apple or Google, we receive and store your email address and name, and that information is linked to you. If you never sign in, none of this applies to you.
Vehicles & settings
Vehicles you save to your Garage, the parts you save, and your app preferences are stored on your device. If you are signed in, they are also backed up to our servers under your account. Signed out, they stay on your device only.
Scan activity
When you scan a vehicle or save a part, we log the scan event — the vehicle (year, make, model, and VIN), the yard selected, the part saved, and the time — so we can see which parts are in demand and power the scan dashboards. These logs are tied to a random device identifier, not to your name or your account.
Diagnostics
We may collect basic, anonymous usage and crash information to keep the app stable. This never includes the contents of your scans.
Third-party services
To show pricing, the app sends vehicle and part search terms (like "2019 Ford F-150 headlight") to:
- eBay — to fetch live listings, sold prices, and comps. See eBay's privacy notice.
- Apple Maps / location services — to find nearby yards.
These requests contain vehicle and part info, not personal identifiers. We don't sell or share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
Data retention
Data on your device (garage, settings) stays until you delete it in the app or remove the app. If you signed in, your account, backed-up garage and saved parts are kept until you ask us to delete them. Scan logs tied to the random device identifier are kept only as long as needed to power the scan dashboards. We don't keep camera images or location data on our servers.
Your choices
- Revoke camera or location access anytime in iOS Settings → Sugarcane 8.
- Delete saved vehicles in the app's Garage.
- Delete the app to remove all local data.
- Use the app without an account at all — signing in is always optional.
- Have your account and everything backed up under it deleted by emailing support@sugarcane8.app.
Children
Sugarcane 8 is intended for adults working with auto parts and resale. It is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If we update this policy, we'll revise the date above and post the new version on this page.
